What We're About

Ocean
City Baptist
Church exists for a single reason: to glorify God. Because this is what God created mankind to do in the first place, it is what we desire to do as a local body of believers – “to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever” (Eph. 3:21). How can a church accomplish this goal of glorifying Him? God has laid out His plan for the church in Scripture.

We glorify God by worshiping Him. The first church is said to have spent their time “praising God” together (Acts 2:46-47). We assemble together to praise Him through singing “psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs” (Eph. 5:19), the reading of Scripture (1 Tim. 4:13), prayer (Acts 2:42), and the preaching of His Word (2 Tim. 4:2). We also worship Him, individually, during the rest of the week.

We glorify God by making disciples of Jesus. Christ gave all believers a “Great Commission” to “make disciples of all the nations” (Mt. 28:19). We do this by proclaiming the gospel, first of all, here in Ocean City. But because our desire is for the whole world to hear the good news of God’s grace, we also support others who take the message around the world (Mt. 28:19-20).

We glorify God by building up believers. Our mission doesn’t end when people place their faith in Christ; that’s when the work begins. Scripture tells us that we are to “proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present every man complete in Christ” (Col. 1:28). Through teaching, fellowship, observing the ordinances, and prayer, we desire as a church to “grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ” (Eph. 4:14-16).
